Health features. Senior living community administrators have the health and well-being of residents in mind at all times. For example, most housing floor plans include bathrooms that feature walk-in showers or tubs and safety handles to prevent falls. Many communities have on-site fitness centers, community pools and parks with walking paths. A community might also have a health or wellness center staffed by nurses, counselors and physical rehabilitation specialists. A concierge doctor might visit regularly or remain on-call for emergencies. Typically, senior living communities provide free or low-cost transportation to nearby medical facilities. In assisted living housing, residents who have difficulty with full independence and self-sufficiency receive at-home health services, such as caretaker and medication assistance.
