Communicate your goals. Finally, even if you practice all of the aforementioned tips, you still may be overlooked for a promotion. This might be because you may not have verbalized to your higher-ups exactly what it is that you want out of your career, your goals and objectives. When you do so, also be sure to be very proactive in your approach so that you are always working progressively toward these goals. One tip in getting others to acknowledge your goals is to first pick out a specific position that you desire. Next, using all of the research you did on your company, find out the exact qualifications and skills that are required to get that position. Then, if you don’t meet all of the requirements, meet with your boss to discuss any additional training you can do to meet the position requirements. Another great tip is to talk to others in your company and make sure they, too, understand the direction you want to go and the goals you want to achieve, while being open to their advice. Furthermore, while you are performing your strategy for promotion, be sure to reach out to those who are in the place of deciding who gets the promotion and let them know what your career aspirations are and what you are doing to get there.
