Aside from shifting your career focus away from dwindling industries and more toward burgeoning ones, a related strategy is to focus on the possibility of working for small businesses. Keep in mind that just because a company is huge, multinational, and well-known, doesn’t mean that there are lots of entry level jobs to go around. In fact, it may just be the opposite. So be sure to never discount the smaller companies, those who employ less than 250 people. It is these companies, believe it or not, that have the most job openings for fresh graduates. In fact, only about 25 percent of graduate job openings are held by big companies, the rest are being given out by medium and small companies. It’s these smaller businesses that are the most eager to hire fresh grads. However, this being the case, most of these jobs go unadvertised, so you may have to do some detective work to track them down.
